Westcountry Ultra Hilly 50 Miler
An adventurous 50-mile race with a lot of elevation and absolutely stunning scenery from start to finish. It is partly out and back with an additional loop done in one direction. Although not a traditionally ‘fast’ course, it offers a real experience, awe-inspiring scenery, and a challenging ultra.
The route includes lush ancient woodland, wild and rugged coastline, the UK’s smallest parish church, picture postcard villages, and sweeping moorland.
You will start from West Somerset College in Minehead, with initial flat tarmac sections along the seafront. The ascent of North Hill marks the beginning of the challenging terrain, followed by descents and climbs through woods and along the coast. The course visits locations such as Porlock marshes, Porlock Weir, Culbone (with the UK’s smallest parish church), and Horner.
The race involves significant climbs and descents, with some sections tackled in reverse on the return journey. It is suitable for those looking for a scenic trail ultra and can be finished in daylight or after dark, offering a chance to interact with 100-mile runners.
