WELLAND Open Water Swim and SwimRun Challenge
The event takes place on June 14, 2026, at the Welland Community Boathouse, located at 108 Thorold Road East on the Welland Canal. It is organized by Canaqua Sports and includes open water swim races and a Mudskipper SwimRun series.
The open water swim uses a standard 1K diamond course. Offered swim distances:
- 1K
- 3K
- 5K
Swimmers complete 1, 3, or 5 laps of the diamond depending on chosen distance. Event bathing caps are provided and must be worn for identification; cap colors correspond to distance. Race numbers are inked on the upper back or shoulder of each participant. Water temperature at this time of year is listed between 68 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. There is no rain date and a delay or cancellation would occur only for lightning.
The Mudskipper SwimRun runs in multiple stages with alternating swim and run segments. Distances include:
- Mudskipper 7.5K consisting of 5 stages with 3 swim stages and 2 run stages and a total swim distance of 2.50K.
- Mudskipper 10K which adds an extra 2.3K run and a short final swim to the finish.
Facilities on site include washrooms and food. Participant medals will be handed out. Wetsuits are optional for most SwimRun entries and event materials include guidance on common SwimRun equipment. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
