Uwharrie 12 Hour Adventure Race
The Uwharrie 12 Hour Adventure Race is on Saturday, May 30, 2026. It includes the following events: Solo, 2 Person Team, 3 Person Team, and 4 Person Team.
Description: Morrow Mountain State Park Hike (??miles) Bike (??miles) Paddle (??miles). To win this event you need the right amount of speed plus the determination to work the entire time. If you have not experienced racing at night this is a great way to start with only 3 hours of dark as we near the summer solstice. That means you will have 9 hours of daylight leaving you less time for getting lost. The Uwharrie Mountains were once a coastal mountain range however they are now 150 miles inland. Once entirely cleared for timber and farmland, the mountains were designated a U.S. National Forest in 1961. The woodlands have since returned, providing a haven for a diversity of wildlife and recreational opportunities. Bring your lights!!
Gear Requirements:
- Boats: Each team/solo racers needs to either provide their own kayak/canoe or rent through NCARS.
- Individual Gear: Functional MOUNTAIN bike, CPSC marked bicycling helmet, Type I, II, or III PFD while paddling, light stick on PFD if paddling between sunset and sunrise, food and fluids, pen/pencil/sharpie, knife, whistle, individual headlight, bike lights.
- Team Gear: Canoe or Kayak, compass, watch, cell phone and waterproof case, basic first aid kit, blinking light while on the boat.
Recommended Gear: Appropriate clothing for all weather conditions, waterproof map case, water purification method, spare bike tube, method of tire/tube inflation, bike repair kit.
Race Day Schedule:
- 06:30 am - Park Gates open
- 8:00 am - 9:30am - Race Check-in
- 9:30 am - Pre race meeting
- 10:00 am - Saturday Race Start
- 10:00 pm - Saturday Race Finish
Camping: Interested in camping? Book your site at Morrow Mountain State Park sooner than later. Sites include tent, cabin, and RV options.
