Trails & Tarmac Backyard Ultra
This event is a 12-hour Backyard Ultra using a 4.2 mile loop called a yard. The course is set just outside Crickhowell in the Black Mountains and runs roughly 50 percent trail and 50 percent tarmac. The route includes one gradual climb, a short steep section, and otherwise relatively flat terrain.
The format requires competitors to complete each loop within one hour. The first 11 yards follow the standard Backyard Ultra format. The 12th yard is a timed race on the same loop with the direction reversed. The winner is the first placed male and the first placed female on that final lap. Medals are awarded to anyone who reaches 32 miles, and special medals have been prepared for 2026.
Event facilities include on site medics, showers and toilets, and a kitchen area for staff. Participants will be fed and watered during the day, with additional hot food provided after the fifth yard. Photographers will take images during daylight hours and make them available for free download after the event. A basic camping field with nearby toilets is available within walking distance of headquarters. A GPX file is provided for the route.
