The Tail Chaser
The Tail Chaser takes place at Albion Hills Conservation Area, 16500 Regional Rd 50, Caledon, ON L7E 3E7. The event uses two distinct 6.7 km loops run in a washing-machine pattern, alternating direction each round. Each loop includes roughly 150 m of elevation and a mix of single track, double track, roots, pine needle paths, and hard packed dirt.
Event formats include 24 hour solo, 24 hour relay for two people, 24 hour team for two people, plus 12 hour and 6 hour options. In the 24 hour solo format a runner completes one 6.7 km loop every hour and must be inside the start corral to continue. In relay formats partners alternate loops. In the two person team format each teammate completes solo laps and the team score is the combined number of laps; ties are broken by fastest combined lap times.
There is one on course aid station at the start and finish area offering water, Skratch Labs drinks and varied food including hot options later in the event. Crew access and pacers are allowed only at the start and finish area and are not allowed on the loop itself. Race kit pickup is available at the chalet the evening before or the morning of the event. Limited camping spaces are bookable through the park and camping fees are roughly 50 dollars per night. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
Race Options
- 24‑Hour Solo: Run one 6.7 km loop every hour on the hour. You must be in the start corral at the top of each hour to continue. If more than one runner remains at the 24‑hour mark, you’ll run one final lap — fastest runner wins.
- 24‑Hour Relay (2 person): Grab a partner and alternate loops. Stay in as long as you can — perfect for experiencing the 24‑hour format without committing to full solo mileage.
- 24‑Hour Team (2 person): Both teammates run solo loops, accumulating as many laps (called a "yard") as possible. Your combined total loops determine your score. If teams tie, the winner is decided by fastest combined lap times.
- 12-hour: Same rules and format as the 24-hour - a great way to experience this format and challenge yourself to pushing for a 50-miler.
- 6-hour: Same rules and format - a great way to introduce yourself to the backyard ultra.
