The Pen y Fan Race 2026
In 2026 we're holding the classic Pen y Fan Race on Saturday 11th July, as a counter in the British Fell and Hill Championships 2026, organised by UK Athletics and sponsored by Pete Bland Sports.
We know many runners travel from far and wide for the usual Brecon Fans Race Weekend, so on the Sunday there will be a guided jog around the Fan y Big Horseshoe route at 12:00, but no race.
The Pen y Fan Race starts in Libanus, Wales. The main course covers 5.8 km with 588 m of ascent to the summit of Pen y Fan. There is a cut-off time of 60 minutes at the summit.
The event is part of the South Wales Series and is a 2026 UKA Fell Running Championship race. Teams of three are allowed. Minimum age is over 16 and junior races are to be confirmed. Safety notes state that local knowledge is beneficial, navigational skills are required, and previous fell-running experience is required.
Entries are by pre-entry only at a fee of £10 via Fabian4; there is no entry on the day and entries are limited to 300. Prize details include a £500 award for a new male or female course record. Current record times are 30:00 for men (1992) and 38:15 for women (1990/1992).
Parking is in the race field with charges intended to encourage car sharing: free for cars with three or more runners, £1 for cars with two runners, and £2 for single-occupant cars; payments are cash only. There will be no Fan y Big race this year; a social run will take place on Sunday. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
Prizes
A generous prize list for all age categories up to V70, plus M/F team prizes. And a £500 prize for breaking the M/F records at Pen y Fan.
