The Maverick New Forest Gravel
The Maverick New Forest Gravel is a one-day gravel and trail running event set at Holmsley Campsite within New Forest National Park. Routes run through ancient and young woodland, evergreens and open forest trails where New Forest ponies and deer may be encountered. Surfaces are predominantly gravel, described as smooth and flowing, but the course can include wet sections, mud and short, sharp climbs common to the area.
Three waymarked routes are offered with elevation gain indicated:
- Half Marathon: 22 km, +172 m
- Middle: 12 km, +111 m
- Short: 6 km, +31 m
Outposts provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drinks as a top-up; there is no outpost on the Short route. Facilities listed for the event include free parking, a fully marked course, precision fuel and hydration outposts, full timing with online results, event photography, food and drink available, a bag drop area and a metal finishers medal. Organisers aim to keep outposts cup-free so participants are asked to bring a reusable cup or bottle. Organisers request that all runners finish by 2pm to reduce pressure on marshals, equivalent to a four hour finish time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
