The Hardwolds 40
The Hardwolds 40 is a long-distance trail race held on 27 June 2026. The course is listed as 47 miles with approximately 4600 ft / 1402 m of ascent and a 20-hour overall time limit. Entry is limited by race capacity.
The route follows the Hudson Way from Beverley and then the Wolds Way, passing through chalk landscapes, market towns and villages including Londesborough, Millington, Fridaythorpe, Thixendale and the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy. The race leaves the Wolds Way near Settrington Beacon and then follows the Centenary Way into Malton, where the finish is at Malton Community Sports Centre.
Checkpoints are placed along the route and are stocked with food, water and soft drinks; several indoor checkpoints also provide hot drinks and hot food. Drop bags are permitted at Millington and Thixendale and a small finish bag will be taken to the finish. A coach transfer from the finish to the start is available for an additional fee.
Competitors must carry mandatory kit for the full race. Random spot checks will be made and missing items can incur time penalties or disqualification. Support crews and one support runner for the final section are allowed under specified rules. Finishers receive a medal and a finishers T-shirt.
