The Beltie Triathlon - Novice, and Olympic Distance
Date: 12th and 13th September 2026
Location: Crossmichael Marina, near Castle Douglas, DG7 3AU, Scotland
Join us in south-west Scotland for The Beltie (Crossmichael) Triathlon. We aim to cater for all abilities and will offer a Novice Distance triathlon (The Very Wee Beltie) and a Standard Distance Triathlon (The Wee Beltie). There will be relay team opportunities.
Novice Distance (The Very Wee Beltie)
This is an easy-going fun event for all levels of athletes, specifically aiming to introduce multi-sport to newcomers.
- Swim: 300 metres in the bay of the marina, close to the shore.
- Bike: 10km tarmac circuit over two laps.
- Run: 3km trail run in fields close by the marina.
Standard Distance (The Wee Beltie)
A scenic and testing course with a fast bike course and interesting run route.
- Swim: The swim will be an open water river swim in a slow-moving river bay by Crossmichael Marina. It will be a two-lap swim around marker buoys with a compulsory exit from the water before returning to the river for the second lap. A water safety team will be in position to assist as required.
- Bike: One 40km lap of a circuit around Loch Ken. Heading North from Crossmichael turning left at Ken Bridge passing through New Galloway, following the shores of the Loch South to Laurieston then returning to the transition area via Glenlochar. The road surfaces are in good condition, the bike course is fast with a few ups and downs. Marshals will be in place at key locations along the course. E bikes are allowed in the Novice event.
- Run: Standard Distance will be one lap. The route is mostly tarmac, although there will be a short trail section at the start of each lap.
The transition area will be located at the Crossmichael Marina. We have tried to make the distances as accurate as possible, however using existing road networks mean we will have approximate distances for each of the run and bike legs.
