Tebay Fell Race
The Tebay Fell Race is an evening midweek fell race on classic Howgills terrain. The senior course is approximately 13 km (8.1 miles) with about 914 m (2999 ft) of ascent and is run as an AM category event under the Fell Runners’ Association rules. The route runs largely on runnable grass with some path sections and occasional boggy or rough patches, and requires navigation care in poor visibility. The finish includes an ascent of Blease Fell followed by a long runnable descent back to Tebay.
Senior entrants must be 18 or over on the day. Pre-registration is requested and senior entry on the day is listed at £8 (pay on the night). The race uses checkpoint cut-offs to manage safety; runners who retire or are timed out must report to the finish/download marshals to confirm their status. Car parking is provided in the Lyon Sports car parks, with registration at Tebay Sports, Social and Railway Club a short walk away. Toilets are available at the club.
As an AM race, all FRA mandatory kit must be carried; listed requirements include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, waterproof trousers, gloves and hat (a buff suffices), a map of the route, a whistle, a compass suitable for fell navigation, and emergency food. Weather may require additional items such as a thermal layer, survival bag or water carrying capacity. Proceeds go to Tebay community groups, Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team and Helm Hill Runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
