Stowmarket Half Marathon & 10K
Stowmarket Striders stage an annual chip timed half marathon and a 10K on rural Suffolk roads. The races use a mixture of B class roads and quiet single-track country lanes that pass through undulating scenic countryside. The course is not closed to traffic, so runners must keep left unless directed otherwise and take personal care at junctions.
Distances
- Half Marathon - open to entrants aged 17 years and older on race day.
- 10K - open to entrants aged 15 years and older on race day.
The event is organised under UKA rules and has certificates of course accuracy. There are regular water stations on the route and first aid medics available at the event. All finishers receive a memento. Prizes are awarded to the first three male and female finishers and to multiple veteran age categories.
Event facilities at race headquarters, Stowupland High School, include parking, refreshments, a bag drop and toilets; there are no changing facilities.
Entry fees are set for online and on-the-day entry with a small discount for affiliated runners; transfers are permitted but the organiser’s general policy is non-refundable. Use of audio headphones during the race is prohibited for safety and may lead to disqualification.
Race details
This is a totally rural course, run on a mixture of B class roads and quiet country lanes which are single track. If traffic is met on these lanes runners should give way. Runners need to be aware that apart from the start area, the roads will not be closed to traffic. Runners will be required to run on the left hand side of the road at all times unless directred to do otherwise by a race official. No Marshal has any authority to stop the flow of traffic. All runners should therefore be aware of their own responsibility to stop at any junction in any dangerous situation.
Runners will assemble in the warm up area by 9:45am. The Half Marathon will start promptly at 10:00am, followed by the 10K shortly afterwards.
First Aid Medics will be present for those requiring medical attention. If you see anyone in distress during the race, please advise a race marshal as soon as possible to call for medical assistance.
USE OF AUDIO EQUIPMENT
Use of any type of audio headphones whilst competing in our race is strictly prohibited due to traffic safety reasons. Those spotted by a marshal will be disqualified.
A copy of the risk assessment will be available on the race notice board.
