Somba K'e Backyard Ultra - Yellowknife Ski Club Chalet
This event is the territory's first Backyard Ultra, held at the Yellowknife Ski Club Chalet, Yellowknife Access Road, Yellowknife, NT, Canada. The course is a 6.7 km loop that runners must complete in full each hour.
A new lap begins at the start of every hour, announced by a cowbell. Runners must finish the loop before the next hour begins and be in the starting corral when the next lap starts. The race continues until only one person remains who has completed the final lap, or until a 24 hour period has expired.
Mandatory equipment listed includes headlamps and adequate clothing. Outside assistance is not allowed except from crew in the starting area and only after a runner has completed their last loop and before the next loop. Spectators and other people are not permitted on the course except in the starting area.
Registration opens Monday, May 25, 2026. Entry categories described are Solo 24hr Backyard Ultra, Team Relay (maximum four people per team with only one teammate on course at a time), Youth Solo, and Youth Team. Registration includes onsite snacks, food and beverages, access to ski club facilities and the chalet including bathrooms and space to lay out race supplies, a DNF medal or token for every participant, and a race t shirt ready for race day.
