Signpost Challenge Hike
The Signpost Challenge Hike, hosted by South Manchester LDWA, is in its 3rd year and based in Marple, near Stockport. This hilly and scenic route heads out to the North & East of Marple, passing over Werneth Low, Cown Edge, Lantern Pike & Chinley Churn in the High Peak before returning to Marple via the Goyt Valley way. If the weather is kind, you will see some fine views over Manchester, the South Pennines and the Peak District. The routes pass through pretty villages and fascinating areas of Industrial Heritage. The long route crosses the amazing Millennium walkway in New Mills. In addition, you will have the challenge of spotting some of the distinctive green PNFS footpath signs along the way.
There is a choice of 2 routes:
- 24 miles / 4,300ft ascent
- 17 miles / 3000ft ascent
Both routes must be completed within ten hours. There will be 3 outdoor and 1 indoor CP on each route, with a good selection of drinks and snacks. The long route will pass through Hayfield, using the Scout Hut as an indoor CP. The short route will use the Children's Inn at Rowarth as an indoor CP.
