Sandwell Open Water Aquathlon 2026
The Sandwell Aquathlon on 4 July 2026 is an open water event at Swan Pool that combines a lake swim with a paved run inside Sandwell Valley park. The programme includes youth and adult aquathlons, swim-only options that finish at the transition exit, and a Scootathon for young children.
Safety measures include safety swimmers in the water and rescue craft. Swim hats are compulsory and wetsuits are recommended; shortie wetsuits are permitted and wetsuit rules will follow BTF guidance depending on water temperature. The event uses chip timing. After exiting the lake competitors pass through a barriered transition area to change for the run and hand removed kit to marshals.
Entry categories and notes:
- Race age is determined by age on 31 December 2026.
- Relay teams are considered if all members share the same age category.
- Competitors may choose to only complete the swim.
Courses:
- Tri Start (8 yrs): 50m swim, 600m run
- Tri Star 1 (9–10 yrs): 150m swim, 1200m run
- Tri Star 2 (11–12 yrs): 250m swim, 1800m run
- Tri Star 3 (13–14 yrs): 300m swim, 2400m run
- Youth (15–16 yrs): 400m swim, 4 km run
- Adults (17+): 400m swim, 4 km run
- Adults (17+): 750m swim, 5 km run
- Adults swim only (17+): 400m or 750m swim (finish at transition)
- Scootathon (2–7 yrs): scoot 25m

- Transition area: Car park by lake, Swan Pool, Sandwell Valley (9.00-11.00) then a rolling entry
- Main Briefing: 10.30am by registration
- Tri suits, swim hat, timing chip: Get on 15 minutes before your start time
- Lakeside Briefing: At Lake entry 5 minutes before your start
- 1st swimmers start: In waves at approx. 11am Swan Pool
- Finish Line: Same small field as registration, near lake entry/exit
- Changing facilities: Portable toilets available near transition; no permanent changing facilities.
