Saint Cuthbert's Way Ultra
The Saint Cuthbert's Way Ultra is a challenging 100 km point-to-point trail race that begins in the historic town of Melrose in the Scottish Borders and concludes at Holy Island on the Northumberland coast. The route meticulously follows the waymarked Saint Cuthbert's Way, traversing significant portions of the picturesque Scottish Borders region and the Northumberland National Park.
With an overall cut-off time of 19.5 hours, the race is designed for experienced ultra-runners. Entries are limited to 150 participants, ensuring a focused and competitive field. The race is fully marked and marshalled, offering comprehensive support including medical cover, chip timing, and instant online results. Each runner is equipped with a GPS tracker for real-time monitoring.
Feed stations are strategically placed, offering water and snacks at every checkpoint. More substantial food and hot drinks are available at Wooler and Morebattle. Runners are advised to utilize personal nutrition and drop bags for additional supplies. Registration can be completed at either Wooler or Melrose. For convenience, a coach transfer from Wooler to Melrose is available, and a complimentary shuttle service operates from the finish at Holy Island back to Wooler. Two drop bags are permitted for the 100 km race, to be deposited at Wooler and Morebattle.
Mandatory Kit
Mandatory kit must be carried by all runners and includes:
- Photographic ID
- Whistle
- Head torch with spare batteries
- Survival bag
- Compass and maps
- Hat and gloves
- Waterproof jacket and trousers
- At least 500 ml of water
- Emergency food
- Personal cup
- Fully charged mobile phone
- Flashing lights for night running
Runners must be 18 years or older on race day. Organizers require competitors to log in at each checkpoint and adhere to event rules regarding navigation and conduct.
