Rothwell Cakeathon Trail Running Event
Join the Rothwell Cakeathon, a trail running event organised by Its Grim Up North Running, starting from Skelton Lake Services off the M1 (J45). The course winds through Rothwell Country Park, featuring a mix of woodland, riverside paths, and grassy trails, with a rewarding view of Leeds City Centre.
Participants can choose from several distances:
- Marathon: 5 × 5-mile loops plus 1.2-mile out and back
- 20 Miles: 4 × 5-mile loops
- 15 Miles: 3 × 5-mile loops
- 10 Miles: 2 × 5-mile loops
- 5 Miles: 1 × 5-mile loop
Support includes water and feed stations approximately every 3 miles, marshals, and a focus on eco-friendly practices with a recommendation to bring reusable cups. Finishers will receive a bespoke medal, a selection of cakes, and hot & cold drinks.
Headphone Policy: For safety, large over-ear headphones are not permitted. Bone-conducting headphones or one ear in/one ear out are suggested. Be aware of potential unmarshalled road crossings.
Venue & Parking: Leeds Skelton Lake Services, M1 J45, Skelton, Leeds LS9 0AS. Free parking is available; car sharing is encouraged.

This event is licensed by the TRA Under UKA rules and welcomes both walkers and runners with a 6.5-hour cut-off. 50p from each participant entry is donated to the RSPB.
