Portobello Beach Race
Race Details
The Portobello Beach Race is licensed by Scottish Athletics and takes place on Sunday, 30 August 2026. The race starts at 10:00 am.
Registration
Race numbers will be issued from 09:00 to 09:45 at Powerleage Portobello, 10 Westbank Street, Edinburgh, EH15 1DR. Race numbers are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Race Route
The course is run on the sand at low tide and is approximately 4 miles in length. Competitors run east to a marker at the pumping station at the Joppa end, then return along the full length of the beach to a marker below the Cat and Dog Home before finishing back at the start. Participants may need to climb over groynes or run around the seaward end, and could get their feet wet.
Good Causes
All proceeds raised from the race will be donated to Towerbank Primary School and other local good causes.
Entry Fee and Restrictions
The online entry fee is £10.00. The race is limited to 350 entries and is restricted to athletes aged 16 and over on race day. Online entry closes on 28th August 2025. Entries may be available on the day at £10 if the limit has not been reached.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded in open male and female categories, as well as age-based veteran categories (40+, 50+, 60+).
Kids' Fun Run
A Kids' Fun Run will take place on race day starting at approximately 10:30 am.
Travel and Facilities
Limited car parking is available. Portobello is well-served by buses and is a 20-25 minute walk from Brunstane train station. Toilets are available at Powerleage Portobello and along the promenade. A safe bag drop, water, snacks, and a cake stand will be provided at the finish.
