Peak District Challenge 2026
The Peak District Challenge is an organised run and trek event by Wilderness Development in the Peak District, based at Hathersage S32 1DU on 18-19 September 2026. Entrants may choose self-navigation or to join a guided walking group with a Mountain Leader.
Distances offered include:
- 25km Copper Challenge - circular route via Hathersage, Baslow, Curbar and Frogatt edges
- 50km Bronze Challenge - 1200m ascent, highest point 464m
- 75km Silver Challenge - 2000m ascent, follows eight checkpoints
- 100km Gold Ultra - 3200m ascent, 24 hour cutoff
- 100 miles Ultra - approximately 5000m ascent, 24 hour cutoff
Self-navigating entries include a route guide booklet, a GPS tracker for the team, checkpoint drinks and snacks, and a hot meal and goody bag at the finish. Entry fees for self-navigating participants range from £61 to £99 depending on distance. Guided walking groups carry an additional fee and include a Mountain Leader, safety equipment, and an average group size of 12.
All entries include a stew supper, goody bag on completion, bag care, and full safety support. Wilderness Development provides GPS tracking for teams and describes its staff as experienced, qualified professionals. Challenge Distances
- 100 Miles in 24 Hours Ultra: Our toughest event, 24 hour cutoff. Suitable for those who’ve already successfully self-navigated 100km runs. You will need to maintain almost 7kph for the entire event to have a chance of completing within the cutoff. There is approximately 5000m of elevation.
- Gold Ultra Challenge: 100km in 24 hours. With 3200m of ascent, to make the 24 hour target you’ll need to average 4kph. The ultimate Peak District challenge, and should be attempted by fit and experienced hillwalkers who want to see the best that the Peak District has to offer.
- Silver Challenge: 75km in 24 hours. 2000m of ascent. Not to be underestimated, this route follows the easiest and flattest routes between eight checkpoints, but covers a long distance. For determined walkers or joggers.
- Bronze Challenge: 50km in 12 hours. Taking in the valleys of the dark peak, and the scenic trails of the southern peak district, the Bronze Challenge has a total ascent of 1200m and at its highest point reaches 464m.
- Copper Challenge: 25km over 9 hours. An achievable challenge, following a circular route from Hathersage to Baslow along riverside paths and back along a hilly route via Curbar and Frogatt edges, and some of the best views in the Peak!
All entries include a stew supper, goody bag on completion, bag care, and full safety support. These are the whole entry fees - even if you're fundraising for charity. If you chose to fundraise, your charity will receive 100% of any sponsorship, with no deductions, and nothing for your charity to pay.
