OuterEdge Events – Big Day Out Dartmoor
The Big Day Out is a two-race trail event on Saturday 1st August 2026 with the event base and finish at Ivybridge Rugby Club. The event features linear off-road routes across Dartmoor with coach transfers available at an additional cost.
Distances:
- The Crossing: 33.5 miles from Belstone to Ivybridge
- The Great Escape: 15.5 miles covering the final section from Princetown to Ivybridge
Courses are fully marked and marshalled. The Crossing includes two fully stocked aid stations and two water-only stops; The Great Escape offers two drinks and refuelling stops. The Crossing route visits Belstone, Postbridge, Bellever and Ivybridge and includes approximately 1,119 metres of ascent and 1,516 metres of descent. Parts of the route cross remote moorland with long sections without provision.
Event facilities at Ivybridge Rugby Club include limited camping (Friday and Saturday nights, £20 per pitch per night, 15 pitches max), shower and changing facilities, a bar and food available on site. A cupless, plastic-free policy is in operation; runners should carry personal reusable drink containers.
Mandatory kit and minimum water capacities are specified for each race and will be checked at registration. All finishers receive bespoke medals; the top three men and women in each race receive trophies. The event runs under England Athletics rules with a Trail Running Association permit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
The Crossing: 33.5 miles
Start time 09:00. Time limit 10 hours. Bespoke medals. Bespoke OuterEdge Event t-shirt can be purchased during the application process. Registration is at Ivybridge Rugby Club (the finish). As this is a linear, off-road route, a bus service is provided at an additional cost of £15 and can be purchased through the SiEntries system. A minimum age requirement for The Crossing is 20 years of age on Raceday.
The Great Escape: 15.5 miles
Starting from Princetown in the heart of the Moor, the route takes in the last 15.5 miles of THE CROSSING, with big wide open spaces, and traverses a remote moorland wilderness along the Abbot’s Way. Can you ‘escape’ from the Moor in the time allowed (4.5 hours)? It’s a downhill route with a few surprisingly technical uphills. The route crosses the head of the Erme Valley and traverses the Erme canyons, with some interesting moorland vistas along the Abbots Way before the long descent into Ivybridge. A real taste of Dartmoor trail running. A fully marked and marshalled course with 2 drinks and refuelling stops. Bespoke medal to all finishers. Bespoke t-shirts can be purchased in the application process. Registration is at Ivybridge rugby club (the finish). As this is a linear route, a bus service is provided at an additional cost of £15 and can be purchased through the SiEntries system. Minimum age requirement for The Dartmoor Great Escape is 17 years.
