About the race
The Ottonenlauf is a natural experience. It leads from the 3 Harz towns of Stiege, Alexisbad, and Meisdorf predominantly over forest and forestry paths, with partly rustic character, through the Selketal in the Harz to the common goal in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Quedlinburg. The road portion on the long distance is just under 10 km. The runners will pass through or touch 13 villages or settlements between Stiege and Quedlinburg, including Güntersberge, Straßberg, Silberhütte, Alexisbad, Mägdesprung, Meisdorf, Ballenstedt, Gernrode, and Bad Suderode. There are sections along the Selketalbahn, past 11 Harz ponds, 2 castles, rock cliffs with a magnificent view of the valley, and through 2 rock tunnels. A sturdy swing has been installed about halfway along the route for the relaxation of tired hikers and runners. Numerous small and medium inclines have to be overcome. The largest part of the route is densely wooded and very shady.
