Step into the night for a fast-paced urban orienteering adventure under the Sturgeon Moon! This event is designed for all experience levels—first-timers, seasoned navigators, runners, hikers, families, and friends.
What Is Orienteering?
Orienteering is an outdoor navigation sport where you use a detailed map (and optionally a compass) to find checkpoints scattered across the terrain. It’s part strategy, part speed, and part exploration—think real-world treasure hunt, after dark.
How the Sturgeon Moon Hydrant Hunt Works
- Format: Score-O (find controls in any order)
- Time Limit: 1 hour
- Goal: Find as many controls as possible
- Scoring: Each control = 5 points
- Penalty: 1-point penalty per minute over the time limit
- What’s Provided: High-quality course maps, Reflective controls with manual punches, Loaner compasses
The Course
Teams or individuals will navigate 20 controls spread throughout the Village of Yellow Springs and the historic Antioch College campus—urban streets, pathways, and campus scenery all come alive at night.
Rain or Shine
Dress for the weather, bring your sense of adventure, and be ready to run, walk, hike, navigate, and explore—whatever your style.
