About the Maunìk Trail

The Maunìk Trail is a competitive mountain running event established in 2022, aimed at promoting the splendid natural heritage of the Municipalities of Faedis and Attimis (UD). It connects nature, history, and panoramic villages with a network of 90 km of trails that cross various types of woods, meadows, mountains, and castles, located just 13 km from Udine! The 4th edition will take place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, offering a route that will allow you to discover the wild characteristics of the Valgrivò, available as a single race or relay. Unspoiled nature, historic castles, panoramas, ridges, rivers, and timeless villages await you! You can compete through all of this and enjoy one of the most varied and wild routes in a unique valley. You can push hard on the descents to win the Nibex Sprint Race, win the Lurbel Cup to fly to Spain, and enjoy all the energy of the Maunìk Village! Discover the races that await you!!

The Maunìk Trail is also unique for the meaning of the name it carries... in fact, Maunìk derives from a local word of Slovenian origin: Magunik. The Magunik identifies a specific local meteorological phenomenon of the Julian Prealps, which often occurs precisely on the meadows of Bocchetta di Sant'Antonio, a splendid panoramic point halfway along the race route! It is a truly unique atmospheric phenomenon: a mass of colder and more humid air than our plain rises in altitude from the Slovenian valley behind, overflows through the meadows of Bocchetta di Sant'Antonio, and condenses, forming a beautiful white cloud gently resting above the town of Canebola, clearly visible even from the Friulian plain! Continuing its descent towards the plain, the Maunìk warms up and dries out, transforming into transparent air, to end its cycle and disappear completely!
