Matlock Skyline Challenge for Derby MRT
The Matlock Skyline Challenge offers two unmarked route options that loop around the high ground near Matlock and Darley Dale. Both routes are mainly off road and have a planned course specifically for this event. Navigation is required on the unmarked course, so participants should be able to navigate or take part with someone who can.
The event is organised as a fundraiser for Derby Mountain Rescue Team and is run in partnership with Ordnance Survey. The route passes through villages, stone walled meadows, moorland, woodland and includes a castle. Finishers receive a completion certificate. Under 18s may take part but must be accompanied by an over 18; if one member of a paired group retires the other must also retire.
Distances available:
- 35 km / 22 miles circular route, mainly off road, 1000 metres of ascent
- 17 km / 11 miles Half Skyline, 500 metres of ascent
The event allows walking or running and can be attempted solo or in a group. The location is Hall Leys Park, Matlock. Entry details and event policies are set by the organiser. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
