Liberty Station Adventure Race Training Event
Join the San Diego Adventure Racing Club (SDARC) for a training event at the new Liberty Station race location. This event offers up to 15 hours of adventure racing fun, with options to shorten the course to your abilities. The course designer, Michael Dubois, has planned a challenging route involving paddling, biking, and trekking. Navigation will be map-based with no GPS allowed; compasses are mandatory.
Start/Finish Location: 2335 Cushing Road, Liberty Station. This location offers convenient access to food vendors at Liberty Station for transitions and the finish line.
Registration: Please register each participant. Registration closes 8/20/26 at noon.
Donations: Donations are welcome to help cover map and truck expenses, but are not obligatory.
Timeline:
- 4:00 AM: Club staff arrive with a box truck for bike and bin/paddle bag drop-off. Kayak staging begins at Kellogg's Beach. A volunteer will be present at the staging site.
- 5:00 AM: Race start on foot from the Liberty Station parking lot.
Gear Requirements:
- Kayak (~15 miles and under): You must provide your own boat capable of paddling in busy San Diego Bay. Rentals are available from Friday night to Sunday morning. Required gear includes a personal floatation device (PFD) and a paddle. Each boat needs 2 glow sticks (front & back).
- Bike (25-30 miles and under): The course includes urban roads, bike trails, fire-roads, and some single-track. Gravel or mountain bikes are recommended. Required gear includes a helmet, repair kit, and front white/rear red lights.
- Trek (15-20 miles and under): Pack to hold 2-3 liters of water and food for the bike & trek. Required gear includes a compass, sun-protective clothing, and a first aid kit.
Course Schematic:
- Stage 1 - Trek ~ 2.5 miles
- Stage 2 - Kayak ~ 11 miles (shorter course option available)
- Stage 3 - Bike ~ 3-5 miles
- Stage 4 - Trek ~ 6 miles or less (water and restrooms at TA)
- Stage 5 - Bike ~ 10 miles (water and restrooms at TA)
- Stage 6 - Trek ~ 12 miles or less (water only at TA)
- Stage 7 - Bike ~ 10 miles (water only at TA)
- Stage 8 - Kayak ~ 4 miles to finish at Liberty Station (bikes left at box truck)
