Leeds Canal Side Run
The event starts at Granary Wharf in Leeds and follows the Leeds to Liverpool Canal towpath on a flat, out-and-back course. The route runs through Kirkstall and beyond on good trail and towpath surface, providing traffic free, canal-side scenery.
Multiple race distances are offered:
- 10K
- 10 mile
- Half marathon
- 20 mile (2 x 10 mile laps)
- Marathon (2 x half marathon laps)
- Ultra marathon (2 x half plus 10K)
Aid stations and feed points are placed approximately every three miles and the course is fully marshalled. Race bibs are collected on the day at registration near the canal alongside toilet facilities. The event operates cup-less feed stations and asks runners to use a reusable bottle or cup. Large over-ear headphones are not permitted for safety; bone conduction or single-ear use is allowed. There may be unmarshalled road crossings on the route.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules. There is no parking at the start area; several city centre car parks are within walking distance and car sharing is recommended. Transfers and deferrals are managed by the organiser and deferrals are permitted up to seven days before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

During the Race
Cup-less events:
We aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Feed stations are located roughly every 3 miles, offering drinks and snacks. Please bring your own reusable bottle or cup.
Headphones:
Most of our courses are off-road, however for safety reasons we do not permit large over-ear headphones. These reduce awareness of marshals, other users, and potential hazards. Bone conduction headphones or single-ear use is permitted.
Please note there may be unmarshalled road crossings on the route.
Transfers & Deferrals:
All transfers and deferrals can be managed via our website. Deferrals are only permitted up to 7 days before the event.
Support on Course:
If you are struggling, injured, or wish to retire, please inform the nearest marshal immediately.
We no longer send out a separate race brief as all key information is included above. However, we strongly recommend checking our FAQ section and joining the “Grim Up North Chat” Facebook group for updates and runner support.
