Jurassic Coast Ultra - 40 Miler
The Jurassic Coast Ultra is a 40-mile point-to-point event that runs from Abbotsbury to Lulworth Cove along the South West Coast Path. The route follows the Acorn waymark and is described as a well-worn coastal path with wild and rugged terrain, featuring steep climbs and descents that require concentration and physical effort. The emphasis is on self-navigation.
Event headquarters, registration, and parking are based at the Masonic Lodge Portland, Victoria Square, Portland, Dorset, DT5 1AL. Transport is provided from the event headquarters to the start and from the finish back to the headquarters by minibus.
Support includes checkpoints roughly every 10 to 20 km offering food, water, and soft drinks, medical cover along the route, on-course support, and minibus pickup for participants who retire. Entry includes a GPS tracker, live tracking maps, an event T-shirt, food and drink on course, a bespoke finisher medal, and free parking.
Participants must carry mandatory kit, which will be checked at registration. Required items include a navigation device, waterproof top and long trousers, warm top, hat and gloves, emergency food, torch and spare batteries, at least 400 ml of water, a high-visibility item, a reusable folding cup, and a fully charged mobile phone. No kit, no run.
A minimum speed of 5 km per hour applies, and there is a total time limit of about 13 hours to complete the course; late runners will be retired.
