Hornby Island 50k & 25k
The Hornby Island 50k & 25k races take place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded Traditional Territory of the Kwakwaka’wakw people from the K’omoks, We Wai Kai and Wei Wai Kum First Nations.
The 50k race features 1,393m of elevation gain, a full island tour weaving through mossy forest, rugged coastal bluffs, and fast, runnable sections. The 25k race offers 806m of elevation gain, with steep climbs, lush forest, and sweeping views.
Courses run through mossy forest, rocky and rooty sections, and faster runnable stretches. March weather can be variable and may include wind, rain, or snow at higher elevations; rocks, roots and bridges can be slick.
Aid stations will not provide disposable cups; participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle. Drop bags are permitted for the 50 km only. Crews are not permitted and no motorized vehicle access is allowed on the mountain on race day. Hiking poles are allowed.
Bib pickup requires a government-issued photo ID and a wristband is required for food access. Pancakes and coffee will be available before the race; warm post-race food and beer will be provided afterward.
Ferry schedules mean participants need to be on the island the night before the event.
