Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay
The Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay is an annual fell running relay held in the Lake District fells near Patterdale. The race is organised as four legs, each run in pairs so teams consist of eight runners in total. Teams may enter in Open, Womens, Mixed Open or Mixed Vets categories. The Mixed Vets category requires four men and four women who are all aged 40 or over on the day.
The route crosses mountain terrain with hard climbs, steep descents and sections that require careful navigation. GPS devices are not permitted and map reading is required. The event is not intended for novice fell runners or for competitors without navigation experience.
Entries open on Friday 3rd July 2026 and close on Sunday 23rd August 2026. Entry is limited to 70 teams and places are allocated on a pre selection basis; clubs are notified after the closing date. Teams allocated a place must pay an entry fee of £100 to complete the entry. Once an entry fee has been taken the fee is non refundable.
There is a general minimum age of 18 years, with one exception: on Leg 1 a single 16 or 17 year old may run if their partner is over 18 and written parental or guardian consent is provided.
