Hitchin 5K
The Hitchin 5 is a timed 5 km event on 27 September 2026. Entrants receive a timing chip and medal, with cash prizes for top finishers and results published on the day.
The course is two laps of 2.5 km each, giving a total distance of 5 km. The route is mostly on paths with some road crossings to join sections of the course; no major roads are used. Known route hazards include concrete posts, other types of posts, bins, bus shelters, cobbled road sections, some tight turns, pedestrians and road vehicles. Organisers will make efforts to reduce these risks and the route is published for those who wish to recce it before the event.
Pre-race communication is by email and race numbers can be collected either the day before or on race day; registration pickup is located in the Market Square.
Car parks are available on Queen Street, Portmill Lane, by the Queen Mother Theatre, Hollow Lane and other nearby roads. Car parks on Sundays are free. Local facilities include Starbucks and market toilets.
Rules specify a minimum entry age of 11 years on race day. The event is not traffic free and marshals must be obeyed at crossings. Music players are not permitted. In wet conditions runners are asked to take care on corners and the race may be postponed in extreme weather. Entries are non transferable and non refundable.
Cash prizes are offered for first, second and third places in male and female categories with amounts to be confirmed. All finishers receive a medal and some post race nibbles. Race results are published promptly on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
