Freed to Run Challenge
The Freed to Run Challenge, now in its 10th year, is being held at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center. This event offers a variety of race distances designed to cater to everyone while continuing its mission to support the Shelter for Elders community with much-needed resources.
The course features a 5k out-and-back loop on the beautiful and tree-lined asphalt trail along the Cecil Field Recreational Trail, looping back into "Tent City" where participants can easily access their gear.
Race Details:
- 12 Hour, 6 Hour, 3 Hour Distances: Run or walk as many 5k loops as possible within the allotted time frame.
- 5k Ultra: A unique challenge where participants run a 5k loop at the top of each hour for 10 consecutive hours, aiming for a 50k distance. Participants must finish each loop within the hour to avoid a Did Not Finish (DNF).
- 12 Hour Relay: Teams of 4-6 members can run in any order, with no restrictions on individual loop counts. The team captain is responsible for communicating with teammates and ensuring all participants sign a waiver.
Included with Registration:
- Custom-made medals and shirts for all participants.
- Overall top 3 awards for each event and distance.
- Age group awards for the 5k distances (top 3, with at least 1st place for every 10-year age group if enough participants).
- Special random awards.
- The coveted Slow A$$ award for the DFL (Dead F***ing Last) participants.
This event is managed by Sombrero Running Events, known for their hospitality and inclusion. They embrace the motto "RULE 62 - Don't take yourself too darn seriously!" ensuring a fun, enjoyable, low-key, and welcoming environment for all.
