The Chevy Chase Race
The 69th Chevy Chase will take place on SATURDAY 4th July 2026. Entries will open on Sunday 1st February 2026.NEW EVENT CENTRE
Registration, bag drop, and the finish line will be at the back of the Cheviot Centre in Padgepool Place, Wooler, NE71 6BL. The start line will remain unchanged at the top of Ramsey Lane.
The Chevy Chase Challenge Walk
An optional Challenge Walk on the same route, starting an hour earlier, with a time limit of 7 hours. This is non-competitive, but times will be recorded at each checkpoint. NO RUNNING is allowed in the walk category; if you intend to run/walk, please enter the 'run'.
Entries for both the run and the walk are online through sientries.co.uk. There is a limit of 300 competitors. Further entries will be added to a waiting list.
The event is affiliated to the Association of Running Clubs (ARC) with permit number ARC/26/0453.
Course Details
The Chevy Chase Race is a 20-mile journey through upland scenery in Northumberland. The route is unmarked and requires competitors to visit manned checkpoints in the correct order and navigate by map and compass; GPS alone is not acceptable. The route includes summits of Cheviot (2676 feet / 815m) and Hedgehope (2348 feet / 714m).
Equipment
Competitors must carry mandatory kit: full waterproof whole-body cover, other body cover appropriate for weather conditions (minimum hat and gloves, plus a fleece), whistle, waterproof map of the race route and surrounding area, compass, and emergency food and drink. Random kit checks will be made. Those without required equipment will not be able to start.
Parking
The main car park is the new car park on the site of the old first school – follow signs for ‘long-stay car park’ at the north end of the High Street, behind the church (200m from registration). Parking in the Padgepool Place car park is restricted to 2 hours.
