Welcome to the 10th Year of Bull of the Woods Trail Races!
Join us in Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico, for an unforgettable trail running experience. In 2026, we're thrilled to host two distinct half marathons, a full marathon, and introducing a brand-new 10K course!
Course Highlights:
- Full Marathon & TSV Half Marathon: Ascend to Kachina Peak (12,481ft) and then traverse to the Northside half marathon course, reaching Fraser Peak (12,168ft). This course spans the entire Taos Ski Valley, offering true trail-cred.
- Northside Half Marathon: This course primarily features tight single-track trails within the Northside trail system, maximizing trail fun and offering big-trail views.
- NEW! 10K TSV Trail Race: This new course includes approximately 1.2K on mountain roads leading to the base of Lift 8, followed by singletrack trails to the finish. Expect close to 2,000 ft in elevation gain. This course is distinct from the "Up & Over 10K" held earlier in the summer, so consider participating in both!
Trail Beta:
The Bull of the Woods Trail Races are designed to maximize your trail running experience on primarily single-track courses through alpine forests, meadows, and overlooks. This is high-country mountain running at its finest, starting around 10,000 ft with ascents to 12,163 ft (Fraser Peak) and 12,481 ft (Kachina Peak). Enjoy breathtaking views of the Wheeler Peak Wilderness, La-Cal Basin, Lobo Peak, Gold Hill, and Wheeler Peak.
Kachina Peak Marathon/Half Marathon 1:
This "sky"-style high-alpine course starts at the Taos Ski Valley Ski Resort and climbs, at times requiring hand-on-knee effort, to the spectacular 12,481 ft Kachina Peak. From the summit, take in panoramic views of the Wheeler Peak Wilderness "Cirque" with its seven peaks over 12,000+ ft. Prepare for over 7,000 feet of climbing and an exhilarating descent down Highline and West Basin Ridges to the finish of the half marathon 1 course.
Full Marathon Continuation:
Full marathoners will refuel at the base and then cross over to the jaw-dropping scenery and pristine single track of the Northside Trails System. Navigate your way to Fraser Peak (12,163 ft) and gaze across the valley back towards Kachina Peak. From here, enjoy a fast descent on winding, secluded single track for maximum fun to the finish.

Volunteers are coordinated by the Enchanted Circle Trails Association (ECTA), and a portion of the event proceeds supports ECTA's trail development, maintenance, and promotion efforts.
