The ABP Newport Marathon Festival will return for 2027 on Sunday 18 April, offering a thrilling festival of running with marathon, half marathon, 10K and mile race options.
The popular race is a firm favourite on the Welsh running calendar, boasting one of the flattest marathon courses in Europe. Nearly 70% of all finishers have claimed a PB on a route that offers iconic landmarks, including the city’s historic Castle, traditional Victorian Market, Transporter Bridge, modern riverfront development and International Sports Village. Marathon and half marathon races also take in the stunning scenery of the Gwent Levels – with its coastal wildlife and picturesque medieval villages.
It’s an exciting weekend of activity – with a Women’s Running Conference and Pasta Party taking place on Saturday 17 April.
For those keen to improve their time over 26.2 miles, the course has been named in a list of ‘10 of the fastest marathons in the world’ by Runners World. The fast and fun supporting half marathon and 10K races give runners of every ability the opportunity to experience the marathon atmosphere, without committing to the challenging 26.2-mile distance.
Newport is definitely a city on the rise, steeped in history with a multi-cultural vibe – complete with a rich musical heritage, artisan breweries, stylish shopping and leisure facilities plus the largest indoor market regeneration in Europe – packed with local and independent stalls.
You can expect a well organised event with fantastic atmosphere and a warm Welsh welcome for participants and spectators alike. The event is delivered by R4W, the team behind events like the Cardiff Half Marathon and has been made possible by the support of Associated British Ports and Newport City Council.

Drawn up by double Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace, the fast and scenic route starts and finishes on Newport’s vibrant riverfront and can boast being one of the flattest marathon routes in Europe.
The 26.2 mile route offers iconic landmarks, including the city’s Transporter Bridge, historic city centre, modern riverfront and International Sports Village as well as the stunning natural scenery and coastal wildlife of the nearby Gwent Levels.
