5 Peaks Area 8 : Trail running at Area 8 Conservation Area
The event takes place at Area 8 Conservation Area on Saturday, July 18. It is the fourth event in the 5 Peaks Trail Running Series in Ontario and offers multiple distances for children and adults.
From the late 1950s to the mid 1990s the area supplied limestone as one of Canada’s large aggregate producers. The former quarry has been transformed into a natural area with trails that run along the escarpment.
Race distances and maps include:
- Kid's 1 km
- Kid's 3 km
- Sport Run or Hike 8.1 km
- Enduro Run or Hike 16.2 km
- Grit Run 24.2 km
Practical information: parking is near the start and finish. Park admission is added to the registration fee; registered participants are admitted to the park at no extra charge on race day and spectators pay the park entrance fee on arrival. Washroom facilities are available at the start and finish. The event is cup free; water and electrolyte drink are available at the start and finish and at one or more aid stations on course. Race distances and maps may change based on trail conditions up to race day. Awards include medals for the top three finishers by gender in each age and distance category and top three male and female overall; awards must be picked up at the race.
Land acknowledgement: the park sits on the treaty lands and traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee, the Huron-Wendat and Neutral Peoples, and the trails are described as ancient paths. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
