1.2 Mile Bay Swim
This is RACE #1 in the TKC Open Water Summer Swim Series: TRIPLE CROWN! Participate in this point-to-point 1.2-mile bay training swim, designed to help you prepare for longer events. It's an excellent opportunity to get comfortable with open water swimming in a group setting and familiarize yourself with the conditions and key locations of the Cedar Island 5K Swim course.
Athletes will receive a swim cap, chip timing, and a Finisher's Towel. Additional add-ons like L & T light weight Long Sleeved Tees are available.
Logistics and Schedule:
- Packet Pickup: Surfside Park, 2901 Avalon Avenue, on the stage from 5:30 AM - 7:10 AM.
- Shuttle Service: Shuttles to the swim start depart from Surfside Park every 10 minutes starting at 5:45 AM, with the last ride at 7:10 AM. No gear bags on the shuttle.
- Swim Start: 5th Avenue Public Dock and 20th Street. Do not gather on the dock until 7:20 AM.
- Self-Seeding: Swimmers will self-seed on the dock by expected finish times (Under 25 Minutes, 26-30 Minutes, 31-39, 40-45 Minutes, 45+ Minutes).
- Swim Start Time: 11:00 AM sharp after crossing the timing mat.
- Course: A 1.2-mile swim in the bay, heading towards Ocean Drive, turning left around a buoy, and finishing at the Avalon Yacht Club.
- Time Limit: Mandatory 60-minute cut-off time.
- Finish: Exit at the Avalon Yacht Club via a swim ladder. Timing chips must be removed upon exiting.
- Bag Drop: Available at Surfside Park for transport to the Avalon Yacht Club post-swim.
- Awards: Approximately 8:15 AM at the Avalon Yacht Club. Includes top 5 overall male and female, masters, grand masters, youngest, and oldest.
- Post-Swim Refreshments: Nemos Pizza, Kohlers Bakery cream donuts, and Sundae Best water ice.
- Shuttles Back: Available from 8:15 AM - 9:15 AM to the Community Hall.
Important Notes:
- Swim temperature will be determined closer to race day. Swim buoys are permitted.
- There is no guarded warm-up swim.
- Proceeds benefit the Avalon Fire Rescue Water Safety Team.
- Race director reserves the right to change, alter, or cancel the event.
